This is the unspoken thing about homeless people. Some are innocent victims of circumstance. Many are aggressive, violent, dangerous vagrants and the innocent people plagued by them should earn much more of our sympathy than the vagrants themselves.
Druggie who fried brain is not “mentally ill.” People who had legitimate bipolar or schizophrenia are harmed by grouping in meth using lowlifes. Same with “homeless.” Mom who gets beat up and has to leave has zero in common with scummy drug abusers who want to live in tents.

Re-open the mental institutions and institute the death penalty for drug dealers. Homelessness will plummet

I used to believe that all of us are just one bad mishap away from being homeless. The fact is, most homeless people have been kicked out of their homes, homeless shelters, health facilities and rehab centers because they are violent. That is why they are homeless.

As someone who worked with this population for years, I’ll add that many prefer being homeless. I’ve been a part of offering housing and jobs but most declined. Their choice is to live without rules, including regarding their substance usage, and they understand this leaves them without a life others have. The ones pushing so hard on their behalf are people looking for some cause to make themselves feel important. We used to call these people “hobos” and they were respected because they weren’t in view of society. Now, those wanting to feel important “advocate” for homeless persons to be amongst society; invasive of society. They also push for more and more support and amenities for this population. This has led to acceptance of homelessness by people who would otherwise be out of the situation soon due to an inability to be self sufficient, as the “hobos” are. As with substance use, we are normalizing it, and funding it. If we didn’t, it would cease to proliferate.

The number 1 people are homeless in this country is by choice. Just ask anyone who was homeless and got themselves off the street. They will all without fail say, "It wasn't until I made the choice to get off the streets"

Still they are Americans.....and should be taken care of first instead of sending tax dollars over seas. Getting them help and off the streets helps them and the people they harass

I have heard so many people say that cities should build housing for these people. Like free housing communes. And just how does anyone think that would work? There would be chaos, violence, and drugs like no one has ever seen.

Also if offered places in hostels they will quickly find the regime unacceptable and leave.
